Board Game Retreat
All the remarkable catering at our board game retreat is created by experienced chefs Alex and Dana of Safron. You will enjoy a different culinary experience every day with a mix of healthy, tasty and decadence. We create an immersive experience by having themed meals to go along with the theme of the day. The food is as adventurous an experience as the games you will be playing. Most dietary requirements can be handled without compromising your enjoyment. Vegetarian, vegan, intolerances? Breakfast
Start the day with a buffet, hot plate and smoothie! Good coffee and a selection of teas. The buffet will include breads, cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, cereals etc. Additionally, each morning, you will be served a different hot plate such as avocado toast with poached eggs and chilli flakes, shakshuka, breakfast burritos, full English, spinach and goats cheese frittata to name a few. Each breakfast will be accompanied with a different smoothie to kick start your day of games and adventure!
Lunch
Due to groups finishing their games at different times, lunch is also served buffet style to accommodate. Various salads perfectly match the day’s dishes such as chicken kofte kebabs, cured salmon, charcuterie platter, empanadas, Potato latkes and more.
If an excursion (either your own or one of ours) spans the lunch period, then a suitable packed lunch will be provided for your adventure.
All Day Refreshments
With all this wonderful food you certainly won’t go hungry. But if you do fancy a little refreshment and bite then don’t worry, we have you covered. Homemade biscuits, homemade cake, fresh fruit and even some freshly carved jamon with a hot or cold drink are always at hand to keep you going.
Evening Meal
This is when we will all sit together and enjoy a fantastic, themed to the day, three course meal. We won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what each of those meals will be, but to give you an idea, flavours will include BBQ, Oriental, Mediterranean and more.
The White Island
Ibiza
Ibiza is a magnificent setting for Intrepid Meeple’s Board Game Retreat. Perfect mild weather, luxury accommodation, beautiful scenery with a rich history and mythology.
The island is a mix of pine covered hills, Mediterranean forest and secluded coves, with incredibly crystalline waters. The absence of big cities makes it quite unpolluted and unpopulated out of the tourist season. Blessed with a mild climate, the summers are hot, but the rest of the seasons are a succession of blue skies and warm temperatures.
History & Mythology
Ibiza has an amazingly rich history that dates back almost 5000 years to when the island was the richest trading hub of the Phoenicians. A history that spans many empires, all who added to the seemingly eternal idea of Ibiza’s spiritual and mythological nature. Carthaginians were buried here as it was a place that made the journey to the afterlife an easy one. Es Vedra (pictured here) was the home of the sirens who tried to lure Ulysses from his ship in Homer’s Odyssey. This history can be felt when exploring the temple ruins, silver mines, church-fortresses, defence towers and more. Excursions to such places can be arranged or we can give you all the guidance you need to discover them for yourself.
Local Town
The villa is located in the centre of Ibiza making the whole Island easily accessible. A few minutes drive to the quaint town of Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, a place steeped in tradition. Its main square houses the whitewashed church and a cluster of bars, restaurants and shops. Many artists, sculptors and musicians have settled here over the years and their works are everywhere – in galleries and most famously in the Bar Costa where penniless artists in the hippy era would swap paintings for food and now hanging art competes with hanging hams for space.
The Villa
The villa portrays both the typical architecture of the old-style houses of Ibiza, while having all the modern luxuries and comfort to enable you to really relax, put your holiday mode on and get into the gaming mind set. We will be playing the games on tables dotted around the villa inside and out so that you can enjoy your surroundings to the upmost. This also means that game groups won’t disturb each other so you don’t have to hold back your excitement when someone else is focused on creating their winning strategy.
The villa’s delightful exterior is surrounded by a well maintained and discreetly fenced garden, with the rolling olive, lemon and lime groves stretched out beyond, the outdoor space seems never-ending, yet incredibly private. The garden and terraced areas are floodlit, at its heart lies the beautiful kidney-shaped swimming pool with Roman-style steps. Great for late season, wetsuit required for early season! There is also plenty of space for al fresco dining, so, weather permitting, we will be able to enjoy our incredible meals while watching the sun light fade. The night sky is a wonder in Ibiza and since there is not much light pollution, the villa has the perfect setting for star gazing.
Had enough of board games for a bit, want to chill out in the recreation room? Equipped with a pool table, table tennis and foosball, the games hall is one of the many places to unwind without having to leave the villa. Those that want to keep in shape during the retreat, or just stretch the muscles after a long board gaming session can make use of the fitness studio.
Standard Bedroom
Located on the main floor of the house are four bedrooms that can be arranged as either twin or double (2 people per room). Each room has air conditioning/heating and satellite TV. Two rooms share a bathroom in what is known as a Jack and Jill style.
En-suite Bedroom
Located on the ground floor of the main house are two bedrooms that can be arranged as either twin or double (2 people per room). Each room has air conditioning/heating, satellite TV and en-suite bathroom with either shower or bath. These bedrooms have access to the garden.
Apartment
Located in a separate building in the garden by the pool are two apartments that can be arranged as either twin or double (2 people per room). Each apartment has air conditioning/heating, satellite TV, kitchenette, seating area, en-suite bathroom with shower and access to a private terrace.
